Body Weight Workout!

Here is a quick intense workout I came up with while vacationing in Hawaii this summer. Since I did not have weights, the workout had to require using just my body weight. This workout definitely rocked my legs and glutes big time.

(2 rounds) Total of 50 reps for each movement

25 Sit Ups

25 Jumping Lunges

25 Push Ups

25 Jumping Squats

25 Burpees

25 Butt Kicks, "Rock Stars"

I did this 2 times through. Pretty intense but short and sweet. Jumping lunges, lunge (Stationary) then jump up and switch legs land and lunge repeat. Jump Squats, Squat down then jump land and squat down repeat. You can touch the floor between your legs with one arm to make sure your getting down far enough. Burpee's, go from a standing position into a plank then lower yourself "All" the way down to the floor like a push up. After you do a pushup and are in a plank position again jump or step your feet forward and jump up in the air. Come back to your standing position and repeat. Butt Kicks, or “Rock Stars,” stand in place jump up and kick your butt with your feet land then repeat. Good luck enjoy the body weight workout!

One of My Favorite Dishes!

Ok so this is one of my all time favorite dishes! It is super easy and the left overs are even better!

Ingredients

  • 1 pound skinless, boneless chicken breast
  • 2 teaspoons olive oil
  • 1 cup chopped onion
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons ground cumin
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 cup bottled salsa
  • 1/3 cup golden raisins
  • 1/4 cup slivered almonds, toasted
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro
  • Fresh cilantro sprigs (optional)

Preparation

  • Place chicken in a food processor; pulse until ground.
  • Heat oil in a large nonstick skillet over medium-high heat. Add onion, and cook for 3 minutes, stirring occasionally. Add chicken, cumin, salt, cinnamon, and garlic, and cook for 3 minutes or until chicken is done, stirring frequently. Stir in salsa and raisins. Cover, reduce heat, and simmer for 5 minutes or until thoroughly heated. Stir in almonds and cilantro. Garnish with cilantro sprigs, if desired.
I would love to hear your feedback on this recipe!

Avoid the Scale!!

I’ve gained 7-10 pounds in the last 6 months from doing CrossFit. If I relied on the scale I would be pretty upset. But I also know that I’ve lost several inches which makes it ok. Muscle weighs more than fat we all know that! Bottom line you can’t go by what the scale reads. What I recommend is either get measured or measure yourself. The three areas to focus on if measuring yourself is your stomach, hips and thighs. You just need to make sure the measurement is taken in the same place each time. For your stomach use your belly button as a guide. For you hips, stand with your feet together and measure the widest circumference. Then for your thighs measure 10 inches above your knee cap (easiest way is to mark your leg). Good luck! Let’s loose inches together! Measure today and let that be your motivator. Give yourself 2-4 weeks of eating well and consistently working out before you remeasure!

Virgin Coconut Oil

Benefits of Virgin Coconut Oil:

Helps you loose weight or maintain your healthy weight, Reduces your risk of heart disease, Lowers cholesterol

Increases metabolism, Boosts daily energy

Rejuvenates your skin and helps prevent wrinkles!

I’ve incorporated Coconut Oil into my diet for over 2 years now. I mainly use it to saute vegetables for breakfast then add my eggs. I also have used it on my skin.. Kind of weird at first but super moisturizing. It can be expensive so I found buying a tub is more cost efficient especially since I use it daily. If you do decide to use it on your skin as well as in your cooking I recommend putting it in a separate container to store in your bathroom. Once you place some on the palm of your hand it liquifies from your body temp. Another idea is to use the coconut oil rather than butter for toast. You can google recipes with coconut oil and find brownies, sauces, stews, vinaigrettes and so on. Let me know what you think or whether you have any ideas on how to incorporate Coconut Oil into your diet!

On the go meal!

Great idea for those of you who find it hard not to eat out while being at work all day.. Buy some Glad microwavable containers and fill it with fresh veggies and cooked meat or even rice. Add some olive oil, salt and pepper to taste pop it in the microwave at work for 2 min and you have a steamed veggie meal... Here I have mushrooms, broccoli, carrots, zucchini and cooked chicken. Simple, healthy and yummy!

Plate Size!

For me it is very easy to fill up my plate whether it's breakfast lunch or dinner. So I have made it a habit of mine to ALWAYS use a salad plate for every meal. It's just an easy way for me to keep my portion sizes under control. So no seconds and no piling up that plate!
